jpeg attachments in hotmail fail to save

when i right click and save an image attachments from hotmail in jpeg format.
it fails to save the image properly the file saves but will not display in
any application including photoshop. which gives the error "unknown jpeg
marker type".

I have deleted the internet files cache and the right click save as jpeg
works on all other websites i have tried just not the hotmail image display.

the images will save fine if bmp format is selected.

the same attachments do work when saved from outlook.

anyone got any ideas?

Hi Steve :)

Try the following and see if it helps:

Cannot save images in proper format

Click Start/Run and type this command to fix the 'Content Type' settings:

regsvr32 /i mshtml.dll
(and/or)
regsvr32 /i shimgvw.dll (for WinXP)

or..

Hi Jan,

I tried the reset of the content type for xp without any joy.
I checked to see if the excrypted pages was set and it isnt.

the weird thing is opera can and does download the jpegs ok.

the rest of the links seem to be the ones i have already found about only
being able to save bmps. from all that I have read, this problem is that only
..bmp appears on the list of "save as".

My problem alas is that .JPG does appear and allows u to save. it looks the
correct file size on the disk, but will not display in windows image viewer
or even photoshop. media viewer says "preview unavailable" and PS says there
is a bad jpeg marker type in the file. (it will however download perfectly as
a .bmp file from the same save as option)

It appears to be localised to my IE6 and Hotmail jpeg attachments as all
other jpg web images i have tried allow me to download and view them without
problem.

this is a strange problem.

Hi Steve :)

Indeed, this does sound a bit strange. Have you tired resetting the image
association for the jpeg's? You have not mentioned the version of Windows
you are using, so I'll have to guess a bit:

XP users can use the following command to restore default
graphics file associations:

regsvr32 /i shimgvw.dll

or...

To restore the default file association, go to
http://www.dougknox.com/xp/file_assoc.htm
Download, unzip and merge the REG file, "JPE/JPG/JPEG Association Fix"
Some image/graphics programs will change file associations.

also...

Hope this helps :)
