Other Fax Programs besides Winfax pro?

I am still having issues with winfax Pro 10.03 and xp home. Looking
forward to the 1hr phone call with symantec tech support tomorrow.
Regardless, unless they are able to prevent all the errors, system hangs
everything else stops working etc, I will demand a refund. Question, any
other known fax program that will use my winfax database of several
hundred numbers in an import function? Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Jordan

Symantec has a 60-day satisfaction guarantee where you can return the
product for a refund. I used it when I got their SystemWorks Pro which
included WinFax Basic but which had a defect in the older version (the
Pro version was at a later version). They didn't even ask for me to
send them the CD (under the assumption that I would destroy it). In
fact, when it became apparent that they could not resolve the problem,
it was them that mentioned the satisfaction guarantee which I then opted
to exercise. I don't remember how long it took for the refund to
arrive.

Symantec doesn't produce anything. They buy products and then rebrand
them and provide enough development to maintain marketability of the
product. However, as a product ages, marketability wanes and so does
maintenance of the product. Symantec is a software *publisher*, not a
software developer. That means their products wane over time. After 3
to 4 years of acquiring a product, expect to be looking for a
replacement. WinFax has been a dead product for about 2 or 3 years; the
latest update was for their spell check dictionary dated back on March
2000. They got Winfax when they "acquired" Delrina back in November
1995.

Have you tried sending them a trouble report using their online web
form? I find it more convenient than waiting on the telephone. They
usually answer within 1 to 3 business days. Expect the first response
to be a boilerplate message spewing a hundred unrelated solutions (but
maybe a couple that do apply), so you'll have to reply to their initial
response and push to get answers specific to your setup.

Windows 2000 and Windows XP come with their own Fax Service. Yeah, it's
not as robust featured as Winfax Basic or Pro but it works. How often
do you need to fax? For a couple times a year, the Fax Service in
Windows 2000/XP is probably more than sufficient. See

I like XP's fax program and I have tried many, many programs and paid for
some even. With Home, you need to install it. Go to Add/Remove/Windows and
tick the fax program. You might need to have your XP Home CD handy. I don't
know if it will import the numbers. I do know that when you receive a fax,
it is converted into a .TIF file that you can email to people.

I appreicate the input. Another 2hrs on hold today to tech support in
India. Another format, return computer to vendor, hardware fine, new
ram installed, another attempt at winfax, another lockup, another not
responding. So, a call to Symantec, and a full refind coming my way.
Now I'll have to format tomorrow to get a working system back.
Unbleiveable. Anyone know how to get my database back from a winfax
back up? Or anyone know of another fax program that will import a
Winfax database?

Thanks,
Jordan
