[OT] Unidentified USB device on all USB Ports after reboot,...

Kerem Gümrükcü

Hi,

this question is rather OT here but its hardware stuff, so
maybe someone can help me out in solving this because
i have a serious problem on my Windows XP System:

After rebooting the system, all my USB devices are
rejected from the System after plugging them into a
USB slot with the Popup "Unidentified USB device".
I removed any USB device entry, even roothub and
all usb stuff from the Device Managers Treenodes,
rebootet, reinstalled all hardware drivers (installed
automatically from system itelsf), rebooted again,
plugged my WLAN stick on and got the same
message after saying that it was successflly installed
and is ready to use. Message was again"Unidentified USB device",
after telling me, that the deivice is ready,...nocthing is/was ready!

Any ideas how to fiy this,...?

I really changed nothing on the System!

Regards

Kerem

You say you rebooted, what did you do just before you rebooted? Perhaps
you replaced the correct drivers with incorrect drivers, and now you
keep re-installing the wrong ones. Visit the manufacturers web site if
you don't have the driver CD for your system, and do NOT use hardware
drivers from Windows Update!

Hi Bob,

i removed all the "Unknown Devices" on my system,
the ones that you dont see in the Device Manager unless
you tell it to show the hidden devices. Thats all,...

The Hardware seems fine,. I rebooted with Live Linux
and all USB Slots and Hubs are ok, includig hardware
devices. This see,s to be a windows problem, someting
with the hardware database or registry,...

Please install the correct drivers from the motherboard CD or go to the
motherboard manufactures website and get them.

when the devices enumerate in this state, open up device manager and view
the properties for each device that has failed. go to the Details tab and
look at the Hardware IDs and Compatible IDs listed. do they contain 0000
for the VID and PID?

That was your mistake. If it wasn't broken, why did you feel the desire to
fix it?

Kerem, is it possible for you to do a Windows XP System Restore to the
day before this occurred?

Is the issue that ALL of your USB devices are unrecognized, thumb drives
or memory stick, a USB printer, a USB mouse. Or just the one device is a
problem.

the answer is "all". It is really a big problem, since i cant
use any UDB device anylonger. I have to plugin all devices
into my other mobile system and use them (as far it is possible
to use the device from another system!) from a remote system.
This is really no long time soution, since there are devices that
cant be used "remotely",...

Here is an interesting possible cause.

What you see in USB host and hub class and enum registries? Any unknown
filter?

I guess the best would be remove all USB host adapters and root hub and let
OS reinstall them.

Yet another reason to say NO to Adobe. Flash is a reason big enough already.

Hi Volodymyr,

no, the event logs are totally empty, nothing to see,...
You can have a look at my system via crossloop or
remote desktop if you like, since i really reinstalled
everything on my system and cant find the cause.
Just if you like,...
