I've just come back from a week away, and have been told by the wife that the computer "went funny" while I was gone (Yeah, I know, try uninstalling wife).
Anyway, I'm running 98SE and IE6. when I fire up IE everything is alright. However when I try to open a link in a separate window the window opens but nothing loads into that window. I have run Spybot, which found a bit of alexia, and AdAware which found more alexia.
I ran AVG which found nothing, ALTHOUGH for shell32.dll it says CHANGE in the result/infection column.
I tried to run windows update which says I now have 3 critical updates to download but when I try to do this the download window pops up but nothing downloads. if I close the download box I am then asked to send an error report to Microsoft.
I tried reinstalling IE6 which seems to go ok but still end up with the problem.
As I said I've been away so am not sure what's going on the web (bugs, viruses etc).
So if anyone could point me in the direction of some diagnostic software, or some advice from personal experience I would be grateful (very very very grateful).
TIA
Dave
