Sorry this off topic but necessary.
Running Windows '98, just installed a USB card into old computer, plugged
in mouse. The system says mouse not recognised. Do I need a driver, and
will any usb driver do?

Jerry

you do need a driver,

I would start by using the driver off the cd that may have come with
the mouse. If there is no cd- then look under the mouse and find the
make/model number- then go to the makers sight (google it :)) and find
their support or download section. you should be able to find drivers
there for your model #.
If that doesn't work then you can also google the name/model with the
word driver... ie (search : name/model driver download) and something
should come up.

Oh, also - make sure you have your usb ports showing up in device
manager. if your card installed fine, then just find the mouse
drivers- (I assume that they did since it was trying to recognize the
mouse.\

good luck :)

Yes, you need the driver disk that came with the USB card as it's likely the
card is not recognised. Note that some drivers will only work with w98
2nd Edition and not with the original windows 98.
