(OT) How to stop pop up of XXX site in IE?

S

SRIKANTH NS

Hi
I have a PC in Office which is connected to internet for browsing . This was
meant for tech literature survey etc.,
But some body was browsing XXX sites when I was on leave and now after 5 or
6 minutes of browsing, an IE window opens up suddenly of a XXX site.

I went to tools , options in IE and deleted all cookies, Temp IE files.
Not satisfied with it I cleaned out the remaining absolutely by deleting
every file in Temp IE files folder.
It has a Google toolbar which is supposed to prevent such pop ups , but that
also is not happening.

When this happens during official work and if some of the colleagues happen
to be nearby, it creates an embarassing situation. How to remedy the
situation.

Spybot Search & Destroy
(Freeware)
OS:
Languages: English
Description: SpyBot-S&D searches your hard drive for so-called
spy- or adbots; that is, little modules that are responsible for the
ads many programs display. Many of these modules also transmit
information, including your surfing behavior on the Internet. If
SpyBot-S&D finds such modules, it can remove them. Another feature
of Spybot S&D is the removal of usage tracks, which makes it more
complicated for unknown spybots to transmit useful data. The list of
last visited websites, opened files, started programs, cookies, all
that and more can be cleaned. Supported are the three major browsers
Internet Explorer, Netscape Communicator and Opera. Spybot-S&D
also contains some routines to find and correct invalid entries
(regarding links left over from software uninstalled long ago, for
example) into the registry (the global Windows database for settings).

Is it a message (not really a IE page) in a box in the middle of your screen
?
If yes, you will have to do something else : Unset an option by using by ex
'ShootTheMessenger'

Try BHODemon.

It's a tiny 1 file executable that has the ability to disable the nasty
Browser Helper Objects that unscrupulous sites install through ActiveX
controls. Get rid of these, and voila! Popups are gone!

Search on google, you'll find it instantly.

Randy Bard provides a link to Spybot in his reply.
d/l..install...........open the program........then hit "Search for
Updates".....get 'em all.......then "Check for Problems'. Let Spybot remove
everything listed in RED.
Reboot...
if your problem persists.........get HijackThis from
http://www.merijn.org/files/HijackThis.exe
d/l to a folder of your choice...or create a new one.....doubleclick
it...hit "Scan"...then "Save Log". it'll open in notepad. Copy (edit..select
all..copy) the log...........
come to SpywareInfo: http://www.spywareinfo.com/forums/

go to the "Spyware & Hijackware category..& post your problem & paste
(CTRL-V) the log into your post.
