OT Fixed my slow IE, and Spyware was the problem.

Hello to all, a few days back I posted here in the hopes of tapping
some of the brain power here about my problems with IE, and for
a link if there was one. Well I finally found out what it was, and
the problem is very wide spread, and perhaps you or someone
else might have been having these same problems, and so I thought
since I have received so much help here in the past with my Excel
problems and questions, I would return the kindness by posting
the problem and fix for the problem that I encountered with my IE
just in case somebody else is having the same symptoms.

Tracking this down was very hard, and finally after 2 whole weeks
of searching and digging I finally found out what it was, thought
I might save somebody else all the trouble.

It seems that hijacking spyware and such are really starting to
become a problem, and lots of people are being zapped by them.

If you have any of these problems, your machine is most likely
hijacked by Coolwebsearch, a new very nasty type of Spyware
that is updated and changed daily to keep Anti-Spyware folks busy.
Even thought I have Spybot, and had it updated, Coolwebsearch
still nailed me, and installed itself into my registry.

Symptom & Problems related to a Coolwebsearch hijacking..

o IE Scrolling is very slow, jittery, sluggish even on a DSL.
o Long delay when trying to highlight text on a web page.
o Long delay when typing text into fields on web pages.
o IE delays when closing up to 30 seconds or more
o ZoneAlarm alert of Coolweb???.exe wants to access the net.

I used CWShredder, and it removed the deeply embedded Coolwebsearch
registry entries, and now my IE is running just like it was before, but I
have also locked IE down a whole lot better than what I had it.

Here are the links once again to learn more, and what to do
and how to fix and prevent.

Very nice of you to post it. Now Google has it and we can all be smarter.
