I have the latest version of firefox running on windows xp sp2 (fully
patched).

I have a small problem. Sometimes firefox.exe refuses to close. The browser
closes, but firefox.exe is still running in the task manager. I can not shut
it down.

The only way to sort it out is to reboot my computer.

Does anyone have any ideas ?

Hi,

I see this happen once and a while. Rather than reboot, do a
Ctrl+Alt+Del to launch Task Manager.
Under the Processes tab locate and select Firefox.exe then press End
Process. Now restart FF.

You may want to check further at Support | Mozilla Corporation

Yes I have tried the CTRL+ALT+DEL method with no joy
I have tried taskkill from command prompt, with no joy

And I am at a loss

If there are any Extensions installed, uninstall them to troubleshoot.
