On playback - yes. On burning - possibly. If the card is failing, the system
will be trying to deal with faults and this in turn may interfere with other
processes. What makes you think it is failing?
I have a DVDRW and a DVD ROM, both playing back very choppy.
CD/DVD burning seems to start OK but fails before the end of the burn.
Ultra DMA enabled on both drives.
I recently installed Alcohol 120% and Daemon Tools, both of which create
virtual drives. Is it likely either of these is causing the problem?
Have also recently upgraded m/b, CPU and RAM then did a "Repair" from XP CD.
Am planning on removing Alcohol and Daemon to see if it makes a difference.
If not I may try full format and re-install of XP.
Problem was still there but not so severe with the old m/b, CPU and RAM.
I'd suspect that it's more likely that some background application or
process is causing the problem. Try playing a video, then hit
ctrl+shift+escape and kill processes slowly until the video clears up. The
last one you kill is likely to be the problem.
