(OT) Email postage stamps :)

It's a little late for April Fools, but this is kind of funny!
Be sure to put one of these on each email you send.......

Don't laugh. Charging per email was proposed as a means
to stop bulk spamming. When spamming is perfectly cost
free, a guy sends 10,000 spam, and as long as one
customer responds and buys something, he "wins". Charging
a fee, even a penny per email, was proposed as a means
to upset that balance. So the guy would fork out $100.00
for his 10,000 spam messages.

As long as they only charge the spammers, that is fine with me. I'd
sure hate to have to punch in my credit card numbers for one penny,
everytime I send an email. And if that was the case, I believe a
retailer has to pay something like 50 cents for every use of a credit or
debit card if the amount is under $10. So, I cant see how that would
work.

Several local stores around here will refuse my debit card if the
purchase is under $10. Although one convenience store, who was
apparently getting a lot of complaints, devised a solution. If the
amount is under $10, (lets say it's $5.50), you get $4.50 in cash, to
make the total $10 (or you can get more cash if desired).

Actually, spammers should pay $100 per email !!!!

Now, we need a newsgroup stamp to use on here :)

If such a scheme were to be adopted, you'd
likely prepay for it. Like buy $10.00 worth,
then send up to 1000 messages before it was
used up.

Our bus passes work that way here. You charge
up your card, before taking trips. Effectively
floating the bus company a loan, until the card
is drained.

Crypto-currency is good for this sort of thing,
With Bitcoin, you can pay a fraction of a penny
for a transaction. There would not be nearly
the same service fees as would exist with credit
cards.
