OT: attachements converted from wmv to dat

Please help me find the correct newsgroup for an email issue.


Friend sends .wmv files and his ISP (Cox) converts them to a .dat file
so I can't view them.

is your friend using Outlook (not Outlook EXPRESS) and using Rich text
format for email and you are NOT using Outlook? (That's the usual cause of
this, nothing to do with the ISP...)

Use a newsgroup dedicated to the particular E-mail program involved.

format for email and you are NOT using Outlook? (That's the usual cause of
this, nothing to do with the ISP...)

Mystery solved. His ISP converts anything over 4MB to a .dat file
unless you ask them not to. So he told them not to. Works fine now.
