OSI Model question

which sublayer of the data link communicates directly with
the NIC? My instructor says LLC but the text says MAC,
does anyone know the correct answer?

MAC communicates with the NIC and controls the type of media used while LLC
handles error correction and flow control and defines Service Access Points
(SAPs) which help in transferring information to upper layers.
