Original window disappears on new window or pop-up

My original IE window disappears when opening a new
window or if a pop-up appears. It will happen when I
choose to open a link in a new window, or shift-click a
link. If I choose open a new window from the file menu,
it will open a new window and the original one will close
as well. I've looked for every option to see if this is
because of a setting, but cannot find anything. Any
ideas why this is occuring?

IE>tools>internet options>advanced>disable 're-use window for launching
shortcuts'>apply/ok your way out.
