Order Form Info Areas Are Black

On both my Win 98 and my Win XP computers, on some web
sites (not all), when I start filling out a form (name &
address, for example) I can't see what I typed in (it's
black). I can moved my cursor over what I just typed, and
usually it will turn yellow, but then disappears when I
remove my cursor. I suspect it has something to do with
the colors I have chosen for my displays, but since it
doesn't occur on all web sites, I'm unsure what the problem
is. Comments anyone? Incidentally, where I am typing this
I have a black background with cyan letters showing what I
type.
 
If I go to the web interface for this newsgroup and select 'post', the window seems to be using the colors I have set under:

Display Properties -> 'Appearance' tab -> 'Advanced' button -> Item: Window

'Color 1:' is the background color, 'Color:' (below 'Color 1:') is the text color.
