There is a New York broadband service called OptOnline, a division of
Cablevision there. Our email settings worked fine under Outlook 2003, but the
smtp server no longer works with the same settings in Outlook 2007? Could you
contact those hard-to-contact people and ask them why their service isn't
supporting you? There is no phone there. And their knowledge base has nothing
beyond how to set up mail for .Outlook 2003
And then email me the answer as to what needs to be done to get my East
Coast clients out of jail as to their email?
My email for a response is (e-mail address removed)
Thanks
Scott

First, why don't we clear up a misconception. Microsoft, generally, does
not monitor these newsgroups. It really sounds like you're asking Microsoft
to talk to an ISP on your behalf, something that I'd doubt they do even if
you called Microsoft product support.

Now that we've gotten that out of the way, lets try and fix your problem.

What exactly is happening when you try to send mail?

Oh, and lastly, http://www.optimum.com/support/phone_list.jsp lists their
phone numbers. How did I find it? I asked their support page 'What is the
phone number for technical support?' Funny how that worked so well. =)

That's nice. You posted to a newsgroup, I'll respond to you in the
newsgroup.

I'm having the same problem. According to my ISP, Outlook's trying to
authenticate several times in a row (usually 3), and fails most of
them. You'd probably be better off trying to get MS to fix Outlook,
rather than try to get your ISP to change their server software which
works with every other email client out there.
