Options greyed out in the Create a new connection Wizard

Some Options are greyed out in the Create a new connection Wizard, in
particular im trying to create a VPN connection.

Anyone any ideas as to why the options are greyed out? its only letting, i
want to setup an office microsoft VPN connection

I have the exact same problem on a new desktop I just bought. My old desktop
does not have the options greyed out. I've spent days trying to figure this
out. If I do, I will let you know. If you do, could you please respond to

Not sure if this helps, but according to MS Help: If you have an active
Winsock Proxy client, you cannot create a VPN connection. A Winsock Proxy
client immediately redirects data to a configured proxy server before the
data can be processed in the fashion required by a VPN connection. To
establish a VPN connection, you should disable the Winsock Proxy client.

Notice some of my replies below. I finally bit the bullet and installed SP2,
and lo and behold, the VPN options were not greyed out anymore and I was able
to setup my VPN connection
