This problem occurred following reinstallation of XP to solve another problem I was having with my system. The reinstallation solved the original problem but created a new one!. Since reinstalling XP I've been unable to connect to the Internet using my broadband modem (or indeed the internal 56k modem which I no longer use) as the required options in the New Connections Wizard are greyed out. In brief, the problem is as follows
I launch the New Connections Wizard through Network Connections in the Control Panel
I click on "Connect to the Internet"; on the next screen I click on the second option relating to creating a manual connection. The problem occurs on the third screen of the Wizard where there are three options: (1) create a dial up connection; (2) create a broadband connection where a user name and password is required; (3) create broadband connection which is "always on". My problem is that in order to connect to my ISP I need to use option 1. However both option 1 and option 2 are greyed out so it is impossible to create the new connection
I understand that it is likely to be caused by a problem with the RAS services failing when XP boots up but I've no idea how to fix it. Step by step advice for a computer dummy very much appreciated
Thank
