Option to use existing browser window

R

Robert Halford

We have an application that runs in a browser.

Some users are reporting that when they click on a hyperlink in an Outlook
email it uses the browser window the application is running in, causing them
to lose any data they had on the application page - also since the
application browser window has no forward and back buttons they are unable
to get back to their original window.

I understand that IE has an option - <IE - tools - internet options -
advanced - resuse window options> - to reuse an existing brower window, but
when we investigate this we have the option turned ON and Outlook still
opens hyperlinks from emails in new browser windows. In fact click on three
email hyperlinks and you have three browser windows open.

So my question is does Outlook have an option for using an existing browser
window, as we are unable to replicate this problem and are unsure what to
ask the users to change to avoid the problem.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Outlook 2003 will always open in a new browser window. When they are using
previous versions of Outlook they will need to untick that IE option.

Hello. In Outlook *2002* is there any way I can set up/create the hyperlink
in a message I'm sending to all our organization's users such that when they
click on it a new IE browser window will open regardless of the IE settings?
I'm trying to avoid having our users deal with IE's advanced settings. What
comes to mind is the HTML TARGET="_blank" code for having a page open in a
new window:

<A HREF="newwindow.html" TARGET="_blank">a new window</A>

Can something like this be implemented for a hyperlink in an Outlook 2002
message?

If Mozilla 1.7.12 is set as your default browser, clicking a hyperlink in an
Outlook 2003 email message will open the link in the active window or tab. I
have not tested this in Firefox or Netscape - but it may very well work in
those browsers as they are built on the same engine. The about:config page
may also be helpful (type about:config in the address window and press Enter).

Just another reason to ditch Internet Explorer... :)

Marc: I *clearly* stated in my note that I use IE not Mozilla, and Outlook
2002 not 2003. Do you have any suggestions (apart from ditch IE) that will
be of assistance to me?
