Optimize Publishing tab: When is it too much?

Hi,

When I first got FP 2003, I loved the Optimize Publishing tab and used
it fearlessly to streamline my code. Then I found out that scripts and
some custom tags were not being published, so I backed off.

Are there any tutorials that explain in plain English which options
are safe to use?

No, but IMHO they are all essentially useful only if you are going to FTP the site to a non FP SE site
