Optical drive missing

My DVD-ROM drive has gone missing. My computer froze a couple of times
when i tried to Hibernate it and i had to hit reboot. Now when I go to
My Computer it has disappeared and i cannot see it in Device manager as
while. I tried reconnecting the plugs of the drive and restarting but
to no joy. I've tried system restore as far back as a month but the
problem persists. The drive does have power but Windows seems to be
ignoring it. I've also tried deleting the upper and lower filters from
the registry but still to no avail.
Help will be appreciated
