Operating System Not Found

Hi, I'm using a Toshiba laptop. When I turned it on today, the laptop started
making this weird humming noise and there wasn't anything in the CD Drive. So
the Toshiba displayed, then the error occurred. Operating system not found. I
restarted it and then a new error message appeared.

System error:

0201: File IDE #0

[Enter Setup] [Boot]

When I chose Enter setup, the hard drive was detected in the boot.

Soon, as the laptop stayed on, the laptop started making loud squeak noises!
It was short but in about 2 seconds intervals.

Now, when I turn it on, it continually occurs. Please help.

It's not Windows XP that is broken, it's the laptop. Contact the shop that
sold it to you.

What conditions of the hard drive does not allow backing up of files in it?

sounds like you might have a faulty hard disk.

It isn't. The same problem occurred to me again. This time it took several
tries of pressing any of the 5 options until I pressed Last Known Good
Configuration and it booted successfully. I checked Event Viewer again and
still there was no error report. Please help!

The hard drive is failing--back up any important files ASAP and take the pc
in for service (if you don't normally handle your own hardware repairs)
