opening word perfect files

i have microsoft office 2000 professional...i cannot open a wps file no
matter what i try..any ideas? i also downloaded sr1 and sr3 microsoft says
all updates are up to date.....frustrated

Hell-

Do you have any idea what version of WP the files were created with?

Are you trying to open the files with Word's File>Open command or by
double-clicking the file icons?

If trying to open the files from some other media, copy them to your hard
drive _first_ and open those copies from within Word.

What _does_ happen when you attempt to open the files?

Hi,
no idea what word perfect they have just says ...i tried opening on open
file andits all jiberish...i also tried to save that document as a word 95
documnet and some come legible but not all....i also tried opening with just
double clikcing and the same thing happens....i do have all the microsoft
updates and file conversions per microsoft but this is frustrating any more
ideas?

Prewar. Try renaming the document in Windows Explorer and place the .doc
file extention on the file. Then Open in Word.

..wps is usually a Microsoft Works word processor file, not a
WordPerfect file. The format of Works .wps files has changed
over successive versions. It would help if you knew what version
of Works was used to create the .wps file. You can download and
install a Works 4.x and 2000 (5.0) converter from
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=246566. You can download and
install a Works 6.0 converter from
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=318244 . Works 7.0 and 8.0
..wps files can be opened in Works 7.0 or 8.0 and saved as Word
(.doc) or Rich Text Format (.rtf) files, both of which Word can
open.
