Opening Various Sound Control Panels from WindowsForms App

A

Alex Maghen

I want to pop open various views of the Sound Control Panels for Vista from
within my C# WindowsForms app. I mean, for example:
- Basic Volume
- Recording Devices
- Default Recording Device Levels
etc., etc.

I don't wan to control these settings directly from my application. I just
want to pop open the control panel windows from the user.

How to?

Hi Alex,

Based on my understanding, you'd like to show Sound Control Panel from your
application. If I'm off base, please feel free to let me know.

You can use Rundll32.exe to open Control Panel as well as various items in
it. For example, type the following command to open Control Panel:

rundll32.exe shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL

The following command opens Sound Control Panel:
rundll32.exe shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL mmsys.cpl,,0

Call the above command line from your application to get what you want.

FYI, to run a command line from your application, use the Process.Start
method to start CMD.exe and pass the command line you want as the
parameter. Visit the following link for a sample on how to do this:

Hope this helps.
If you have any questions, please feel free to let me know.

Sincerely,
Linda Liu
