Opening PDF Files in IE 6 - Please Help, 3rd Post

T

Ted Thompson

Previously in IE5, I was able to create links to specific
pages in PDF files and adjust the view appropriately
using java script and the syntax:

filename.pdf#page=6&view=fit

When I installed IE6, this stopped working.

Knowledge Base Article 322918 appears to address this:
Cannot Open a .pdf File with the File:// Protocol If the
Address Contains a "#" Character

It recommends downloading and installing SP1 for IE6.
I've tried this, and no luck. Even without SP1 it will
still open the file, but not to the specific page or view.

I could really use this functionality.

This is my third post on this with no response.

Can someone please help with this?

Have you tried searching on Adobe support sites?

This is the first time I have read of this feature.
Could these commands be case sensitive?

FWIW all the examples on this page use Fit with a capital "F".

(Google web search for
"view=fit" site:adobe.com
)

It looks as if "named destination" could be useful search term

< http://www.adobe.com/support/techdocs/a17e.htm >

supports your idea of page= and hints that a "named destination"
may be case sensitive. Unfortunately there are no Related links
on the page so it is a dead-end for more information about your
other parameter.

If the page= parameter works by itself I suspect your issue is with
Adobe and not with IE. However, even then it isn't completely clear
that just any page in any PDF document can be used this way. I think
that it may just as easily be the case that only pages which have been
created as "named destinations" could be specified that way.

We had the same problem using Acrobat 6.0 (not the
reader). We found a newer release at Adobe, 6.01. Solved
our problem. Perhaps it will solve yours. The links to #
etc all work now.
