Opening Outlook 2003 PST files in Outlook XP

Sorry if this is an old chestnut but 2 of us have spent th ebetter part of a
day, scrolling through all your forums, websites, suggestions etc and still
can't find an answer to our problem.

Have upgraded from office 2k3 to office xp and now want to use our 2k3 PST
files in Outlook XP. However every time we try to open them it says it is in
th wrong format. Have run scanpst.exe on the file which it says it repairs
and all we have now is an empty pst file!

If you follow the advice about import into a new pst file that doesn't work
either - still blank! If your not supposed to use import.export then why is
it in there?

Have tried FILE OPEN etc. still doesn't work.

Any-one got a simple idiot proof solution that works? And why is it soooo
difficult? I thought these things were supposed to be compatible in versions
2003 onwards?

Thank you in anticipation.

Sorry, office 2003 to Officexp is a downgrade, not upgrade.
Office versions earlier the 2003 cannot open the default data files created
in 2003 or 2007

Presumably you mean you upgraded from OfficeXp to Office2003, did not
Outlook connect to your old data file? did you check the Views in Outlook.
What are the names of the *.pst files and their sizes (you have to search to
include hidden in explorer to locate them)

Err, A Downgrade? Forgive me but did not XP come out AFTER 2003?? If this
is a downgrade no wonder Mr G is in trouble!! LoL.

Am going to try and 'Upgrade' to 2007 and see if this cures teh problem but
no doubt you will tell me to stay with 2003 as everything else issued since
is rubbish. Thank you Microsoft for making life so damn difficult!

OfficeXp also refered to as Office 2002 was released prior to Office 2003

If you had Office 2003 installed, and you didnt uninstall it, but then
installed OfficeXP you will now probably have both versions of Office
installed.
Use the add/remove dialogue to uninstall all versions of Office, clear out
temp files, then reboot, prior to attempting the install of Office 2003 or
Office 2007.

If you are using Office upgrade disks it is not neccessary to install
earlier version first, if during the install it complains about no
qualifying product, swap the cd for the earlier version, once verified, swap
cd back & continue with the install.
