Opening Office Documents

When trying to open Office Documents by double-clicking
from Windows Explorer, I get the "Document name or path is
not valid" message, though if I click "OK", the document
will load (although for Excel Documents I have to
click "OK" for every word in the Document path). Also, I
maintain our company's internal web site for procedures,
etc, and when I am working in FrontPage and linking to
Office Documents I cannot see them - I get the little icon
in the upper left corner. (though when I right-click on
the Office document in FrontPage and select "Properties"
it shows the proper path to the document). I have tried to
mess with the "Folder Options - File Types - Opens With"
dialog in Windows Explorer, but it doesn't seem to save
any changes I make. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

This might have something to do with the way Windows 2000
(and later) insists on forcing the use of the My Documents
folder. Try this: In the properties for the application, be
it Word, Excel, etc., specify a specific folder location
where the document/data files are located. Do this in both
the profile area as well as in the Run>>Programs list. To
keep it simple, the location specified in the properties
might as well be the same location used in the varous Tools>>
Options setting within the Office applications. (For example,
we keep Office2K files grouped in an Office2K folder in its
area.)
