opening non FP sites in FP

H

Harvey

I am using FP 2002, and have been given the job of updating a site that does
not have FP extensions installed. I can access the site through an ftp
program (WSftp), but through FrontPage.

I have tried the usual -
http://www.domain.com
http://domain.com
but get an error message that it is not accessible.

If I try it with ftp://domaine.net, I get "FrontPage does not support
opening files from FTP servers".
And if I try ftp://www.domaine.com, I get "Can not connect to ftp server..."

Help! How can I open this siote for editing. I know I can publish from FP
using ftp. How do I open it?

Thanks,
Harvey

You can not open a site on a live/remote server for editing unless the site has the FP extensions.
You would have to use a FTP application to download the complete site to a folder on your HD, then
open that folder in FP, make your changes, then publish back to the live/remote server via FP's ftp
mode.

Excellent. Thanks. Will this enable FP to maintain links, etc?

So, if I understand, FP only has a problem downloading FTP, but it obviously
publishes using FTP. It sounds like all I loose is the ability to use fp
extensions, which includes the email form handler, correct?

Thanks,
Harvey

You will have to recreate any navigation structure, etc.
