Opening Internet Explorer

Re- installed windows xp last week due to sluggishness and computer
re-booting itself. Everything runs fine once I get IE opened up. Many times,
but not always, I click to connect to the internet and I get a blank page
stating "Internet not responding". I try a second time and usually, not
always, everything opens up normally and I'm on my homepage and from then
on, all runs beutifully. I've reported the problems when promted and they
link me to a page that states, "the problem is due to Microsoft Windows,
make sure you have installed all uopdates. Well, all updates are current and
the problem continues.Any thoughts ? Thanks D.I.

First, what version of Internet Explorer are you using? If you're using IE
7 with addons such as the Google Toolbar, try uninstalling those and see if
performance improves. Also scan for malware and viruees (search this group
for tools recommended).

And, finally, are you *sure* it isn't your ISP service?

I've ran IE7 without add-ons and the problem still continues. In fact last
week before I re-loaded XP I tried 8 different methods per Microsoft's
suggestions and no changes until I re-loaded Windows xp. All problems went
away except for the one described earlier, initial contact to the internet
thwarted until a second or third try. After successfully connecting, the
connection is very smooth and responsive, which leads me to believe it's not
my ISP. The e-mail connections are flawless. Also when reporting the problem
to Microsoft, they state the problem is with Windows. Thanks, Iceman for the
advice. I'll keep looking for new methods to try. I could implement a system
recovery which I did once a couple of years ago, successfully, but man that
took me over 9 hours. I was hoping to avoid that one. D.I.
