not too sure whats happened but when i double click a hard drive it comes up
with the "open with" screen when it should just automatically open.
i am able to right click and use the open/explore commands but after doing
this for a couple of days it has become annoying.
within the "open with" screen i am able to browse for the explorer.exe file
within the windows folder and it opens as it would usually, but when i try to
click on the box where it says "Always use the selected program to open this
kind of file" i am unable to click it.

i have a screenshot listed below..

Open run command and type in:
regsvr32 /i shell32 click [OK] Reboot your machine. Does it help?

In some cases it was an autorun.inf viral infection, so try to run a
thorough scan on your machine.

What happen you select the Check box for always open this file with this
program (Explorer.exe).

What is D:\ which is not presently shown in the screenshot, yet it's shown
as what you're attempting to open in the "Open With" window?

I guess your second Hard drive either infected or messed up!

What happen if you right click My computer and select manage and under
Computer Management >> Storage >> Disk Management = you will see two HDD:
(C:)
(D:)

Right click (D:) and select properties. Under Quota what you can see?

Also, you could Defrag it from there.
