Opening files with Chinese characters in file name

I have a problem in that when I receive a file from a colleague with Chinese
characters in the file name, the file is blank when I open it. I know it was
not blank when it was sent to me because it was >0kb in size.

Why does Excel do this and how do I fix it?

Usally an activeX will come up asking you to install the proper fonts. You
may have a problem with your registy. Deleting a registry item windows wil
automatically create the registry item seting it to its default settings.
Try deleting the folowing

Close Excel
Then Open regisitry editor.
2003 : Start - Run - type in box regedit
2007 : Start - search box type regedit

Got to
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\Common

Try deleting FontBmpCache or the entire Common entry.

Then open excel and see if you are prompted to install the activeX for the
chineese font. Another method would be to receive an e-mail with the fonts.
Outlook will ask you to install the fonts.
