opening files in my documents

On desktop I click on my doc folder and it opens. when I go to open a file in
my docs, it opens into a search file. If you right click it shows search,
then open. On my dosc file if you right click it shows, open and the seach.
What did I do to change this and how do i correct.
 
Regarding Larrys question. Say I open my docs folder and then want to open
my pictures, when I double click on my picture folder it opens to a search
option instead of opening file to see whats in file.
