Thanks for replying.
I deal mostly in email and forward changed documents often. It is much
easier for me to make changes by clicking an attachment, making the change
and then forwarding. If I need to make a permanant save I do so then to an
appropriate folder. When I do save the changed doc is saved to the temp
folder and becomes part of my saved message.
It is also annying how it opens up in the reading layout. Is there any way
to turn this off permanenantly? I have to click too many buttons and it
becomes annoying and time consuming.

Rick
:
When you open the message directly from within the mail it is Read Only.
When you open the message first it won't be in Read Only mode.
Why do you want to change this? The attachment is put in a temp folder
when
opened directly so saving your changes there is just a scenario for
disaster.

How do you change the default for opening attachements so that it
doesn't
open as a read only document. The MS help says to go to Tools > Options
Security and untick the box, but there is no box about read only
attachments
here.
