Opening Attachment Pblms

HP Desktop--Vista Home Premium SP1. About 18 months old. All of a sudden
after opening Windows Vista Mail, only one Attachment will open. I have to
turnoff Windows Mail and turn it on again to open another attachment. I
recently added a Java update. Could this be the problem? or what?

That type of problem is often caused by interference from a non-
compatible antivirus program. Which antivirus are you running?
As a minimum, email scanning in the antivirus must be turned off.

I'm running Windows Defender, Spybot, Ad-aware and Spyware Blaster with the
Mozila Firewall disabled. These have been installed for many months...but I
did recently update Ad-Aware. Shall I try a System Restore point?

My "automatic updates" show....Windows Defender 7/25/03, Windows Search
7/24/08, and Mail Junk Email Filter 7/24/08. Could these be the problem?

No, not likely. No one else has reported problems with those
particular updates.

System Restore may solve the immediate problem, but the
same problem is likely to pop up again in the future.

None of the security programs you mentioned are an antivirus.
Did you ever have a trial version of Norton or McAfee installed
on that computer?

Norton was origionally installed by HP...but I removed it immediately.
Thanks for the response. I'll diddle a little more with it and let you know
if I learn anything. Have a nice day. bobg

Finally fixed the problem. When AVG (Grisoft) was uninstalled, it left a
few folders behind. I had to use my "Administrator" permission to remove
them. Attachments are now working fine. Thanks to all who helped me. Very
much appreciated. bobg

You probably did not remove it properly and some remnants are still on your
computer.

Use the below tool from Symantec(Norton) to remove everything from that
awful Norton correctly
