2nd attachment file won't open

My problem has to do with Microsoft Mail e-mail messages that have more than
1 image file attached (i.e. JPG, GIF, etc.) When I first open any 1 of the
attached image files, it opens OK in my Internet Explorer browser. After
closing the browser, and when I try to open any other attached image file, I
get the error message MICROSOFT MAIL HAS STOPPED WORKING. No specific reason
is offered as to why it stops working. This started to happen recently, and
it happens every time I try to open more than one of the attached image
files. A clean reboot of my Vista Home Premium PC doesn't help. Any
suggestions, please?

I have the same problem trying to open attachments I then get the sam
messaget then windows mail shuts down and reboots. I think it has something
to do with the installation of service pack 1. It seems all the problems
started after that download.

It's probably caused by an interaction between Windows Mail and
your antivirus, triggered by something in SP1. Which antivirus?

Hi Gary ... Tx for feedback. I use Norton (V 15.5.0.23) with my Windows
Vista Home Premium (2007). I installed Norton in March this year, and haven't
had a problem with it SO FAR. However, my problem opening more than 1 image
file attached to Windows Mail email messages didn't actually show up until a
FEW DAYS AFTER I installed SP1. By the way, I also installed SP2 immediately
after installing SP1! Any suggestions on what I should do first: contact
Norton; contact Microsoft about SP1 and/or SP2; contact both; or, do
something else?

SP2? Vista's only service pack is SP1.

Norton will not admit that their antivirus causes problems for Windows Mail,
but from hundreds (if not thousands) of reports posted here, we know that
Norton antivirus is among the top three troublemakers for Windows Mail.
Symptoms often take a while to develop. The only way you can prove
or disprove that Norton is the culprit is to uninstall it, followed by using their
debris removal tool:

Another option is to upgrade to Windows Live Mail, which is more
resistant to the adverse effects of overly intrusive antivirus products:

In any case you must disable any antivirus email scanning, for the reason
explained here:
