Open With Dialog

In the "Other Programs" list in the "Open with" dialog I have two entries
for the same program. How do I delete the redundant entry?

Hi Jim,

I'm guessing they have different extensions. To see those, from Windows
Explorer:
select / Tools / Folder Options / View (tab) & Un-tick "hide extensions for
known file types".
Is that better?

I already have this selection checked. Let me explain the problem more
clearly,

If I right click a file the and selet "Open with --> Choose with" there is a
list of suggested programs to open the file plus there is a list of "Other
programs." It's in the latter list that one of the programs on the list is
shown twice.

Hope that makes the problem clearer.

Here is the answer...

It has to do with what programs are listed in the "Open With" dialog box
which is shown when an unknown file type is opened.

Open the registry and find the key HKEY_CLASS_ROOT\Applications. Under this
key are a series of sub-keys representing installed programs. To stop a
specific program from appearing in the "Open With" list select the
associated sub-key and create a new empty string value called "NoOpenWith."

To allow an application to be shown in the list delete the "NoOpenWith"
value.

You may need to restart Windows for the change to take effect. I tried this
fix and it eliminated the double entry for the same program that was being
referred to under the regustry key HKEY_CLASS_ROOT\Applications.
