Open window when starting up Windows 2000

My problem: A (winnt/system32/) window opens everytime I
boot up to the desktop. I cannot stop this from happening.
Can someone help?

Thanks for the article.

I removed everything from the registry (per the article)
but there is one thing that keeps being added back onto the
registry. It's MOBSYNC.EXE /LOGON I delete it and when
I reboot, it's back in the registry (and the WINNT/system32
window is still there).
Do you know what this KEY is for...and how to delete it?

MOBSYNC.EXE = Microsoft Synchronization Manager. The article doesn't tell
you to remove *all* entries. Only the incorrect or null value ones. Ooooops

Well, lucky me that it CAN'T be removed (Cause it keeps
coming back.)

I removed all the items because I could't tell which of the
items were null or void. (Per the article. It said to only
keep the system tray.)

What I currently have left in the RUN is:
(Default) c:\winnt\system32
Synchronization Manager mobsync.exe /logon
System Tray SysTray.exe
SysUpd C:\winnt\SysUpd.exe

Even with just the items above, I still get that annoying
C:\WINNT\SYSTM32 folder/window opening when I boot up to
the desktop.

Any suggestions. I really appreciate your help.

SysUpd.exe looks likely to be spyware. Delete the value from (Default) as
this is your problem.

Also you need to look in two different places.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

I deleted any reference to SysUpd in the registry. Just
deleting it from RUN didn't work. (Unless I didn't
understand what you meant from "delete the value from
(Default). Where is this?)

Even after deleting all SysUpd references in the registry
and renaming the SysUpd.exe file to xxxxSysUpd.exe, I still
have the folder/window opening up after booting up.

Do you have any other suggestions that I may try?

Two separate issues. You posted
(Default) c:\winnt\system32
The value "c:\winnt\system32" is the cause of your problem.

For the spyware you might want to try one or both of these.

Will the computer still boot-up without a value set for the
(DEFAULT) in the RUN folder (in the registry)?

D

Dave Patrick

If we're still talking about entries within;
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
then yes.

Yes, thanks. I removed the value in the (default)and now
there is no window opening any more.

Thanks for your help.
