Open My Documents with "folders" option

I'd like the "My Documents" shortcut on my desktop to open the the
folders displayed on the left. I also want this to happen with other
folders I have shortcuts to. Is there a way to get them to open this
way, rather than having to click on the folders button every time?
Thanks!

Iv'e done this before but will have to look over my notes to remember how.

But here's a work around that I like better.
Start | Program | Accessories | Windows Explorer
Right mouse click on the explorer and drag it to your desktop (use Copy
Here).
Then check the properties of this shortcut.
In the Target: You should see something like:

%SystemRoot%\explorer.exe
Change this to:
%SystemRoot%\explorer.exe /n, /e, C:\

Close and click the shortcut.
This should open in folder mode on the "C" Drive and it should expand the
folder view (so you can see everthing).

Now in your case, you can change C:\ to be any folder you want.
%SystemRoot%\explorer.exe /n, /e, C:\Documents and Settings\"Your
Profile"\My Documents

This should do what you want.
Let me know.

Note:
I usually have several copies of the explorer on my tool bar that open to
specific folders. You have to give them different names if you plan to have
more than one.

I Remember how to do it now. Here's the Concept

If you right click on My Documents (on your desktop), you will the menu.
The top two items on the menu are Open and Explore. You should notice that
Open is in bold. That means the Open command is the default and that is the
command that is issued when you double click it. What you are wanting to do
is Explore (instead of open). You can try it to verify that this is what
you want.

If this is verified, what you want to do change the default to be Explore
(instead of Open). This is done by opening Windows Explorer. Select Tools
| Folder Options | File Types (tab)
Now scroll down until you find "Folder". Do not confuse this with File
Folder. Now that you found Folder, Click once on it and then select the
Advance button. You should have two options Explore & Open. Select Explore
then click "Set Default".

This should be done. Please let me know.

Thanks for the reply. Strange. I tried this, did exactly what you said,
but when I open a folder, it's still just the list, no folders window
on the left. When I look at it all, it seems like it should work, but
it doesn't. Does it work on your system? Mine is Win2000. Does that
make a difference?
