Open Error EXCEL 2003 - Data may have been lost

I have two machines networked one machine has EXCEL 2003 and the other EXCEL
2002. Both machines access an EXCEL 2002 template and from their respective
machines do not have a problem. However, when the EXCEL 2003 machine
attempts to open the worksheet created by EXCEL 2002, the following error
message occurs: "File Error: Data May Have Been Lost", and indeed it has
been. The data validation and the file control boxes are all gone. Is there
anyway to correct this problem, now that all the machines have been updated
to EXCEL 2003, we have lost valuable trending data. If anyone has a work
around or fix, please let me know. Thanks

Try opening the file in 2002 and saving as a web page (.htm file) and then
opening from 2003.

The problem here is that all of the machines have been updated to EXCEL 2003
and EXCEL 2002 no longer resides on the machines. Do you have any other
suggestions? Thanks for your help!

Can you not just install 2002 on one of them as well. You would need to
reinstall 2003 afterwards as well though, or perhaps just do a detect and
repair, else you may have a few problems..

If not and the filesize isn't huge, then by all means send it to me and I'll
have a go for you. Just take the NOSPAM out of my email addy.

I guess to your point, I can re-install 2002 on one computer until we have
processed all of our prior transactions. Create all new transactions with
2003 and then upgrade the 2002 to 2003 again.

Thanks for the offer to modify, however, we have over 100 excel files that
fit into this category. I see now there is no easy fix, and I guess so is
life.

Thanks again!
