open desktop doesn't work

My open desktop function has gotten corrupted. The code, association, and
ftype are ok. I suspect that the registry has gotten changed. when I hit
the icon on the quick launch bar an explorer window opens showing the same
display as when hitting my computer. Desktop is at the top of the left pane
with my documents highlighted. The right pane shows the contents of my
documents. Other than this window opening nothing else happens.

Does anyone have the relevant registry settings that affect this situation
for windows sp4.

Are you talking about 'Show Desktop' ? Create a file named "Show
Desktop.scf" paste this text in the file save it, then drag it to the Quick
Launch bar.
