Oops new drive windows XP pro install

OK, I screwed up. I am upgrading my 2000 pro to xp pro and bought a new
hard drive for a clean install. I put in the XP pro disk and it booted. At
this point, I was looking at the install booklet from the HD manufacturer
(Segate) and noticed that it had a utilities disk for formating. Now, I
have had a problem with MS formating to the proper size in the past so
decided to abort the install (haven't done anything yet) and put in the
Segate utilities disk and boot from that. It now hang at the "Verifying DMI
pool Data" ... So it won't even go to the CD to boot at this point. Any
Ideas as to get past this in BIOS??? My assuption here is that the XP pro
install disk changed something in BIOS and when I aborted, it is causing
this glitch.

AMD 1800+
Asus A7N8X-X
NVIDIA 5200
512 Meg Ram
CD burner
CD ROM
ZIP 100

First - disconnect the ZIP drive - save yourself that hassle later. You can
reconnect once Windows XP is up and running.
Second - go into your BIOS and set the boot order - CDROM drive first.
Third - reboot the machine and watch for the "press any key to boot from CD"
message and do so.

If your Windows XP CD is SP1 or above - you can format that drive just about
any size NTFS and be fine. If your Windows XP CD is older than SP1 - then
you might consider using another computer and slipstreaming (integrating)
SP2 into your CD and burning a new one to use - so you are more current "out
of the gate".

You can download all updates and burn them to CD..

You can download each update manually - based off the KB Article number,
etc. That way you can back it up/burn a CD of them in case you need them or
use them to keep a slipstream/integrated (updated) Windows XP CD.

I apologize for top posting...

Unhooking my Zip drive got me going again. Segates diskwizard CD really is
a confusing utility so am going to start again with the xp pro install disk.
This is an original xp pro disk so has no service packs. You mentioned
slipstreaming an xp pro CD.. I feel kind of stupid here so is there a way
to do that?? obviously there is or you wouldn't mention it. I have glance
at a few of the urls below but am not sure about the slip streaming. Do you
just have an article on that?? In the past, I have had to reload xp pro and
it can be confusing, loading sp1a then various updates before it will accept
sp2. Thanks for getting me going again...

Shenan may prefer other utilities or methods for making a slipstreamed CD.
However, I've successfully used the directions from this site to create
one
for my system:

Draggonfodder:
In addition to the link provided you by Sharon, you might want to consider
the AutoStreamer (freebie) program which many users are finding to be the
program of choice when it comes to slipstreaming. It (kind of) automates the
process and is a relatively simple & straightforward program for its
intended purpose. Here are a few links to get you started...

Download AutoStreamer from:

http://www.softpedia.com/public/cat/12/2/12-2-183.shtml

Download the SP2 file and save it to your Desktop or C:\ root directory.

Thanks, I think you all have helped me tremendously. I have been reluctant
to clean up my HD by reinstalling because it is so tedeous and time
consuming. I will surely try this.
