onstant Popups of "ILLEGAL OPERATION" while browsing

Alexander \\Slepak

For the last couple weeks, EVERY TIME, in a few minutes after getting on the
internet, an icon titled "EXPLORER" pops up:

"This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down.
If problem persists, contact the program vendor".

After clicking OK, a new popup titled "Microsoft Internet Explorer":

"An error has occurred in Internet Explorer. Internet Explorer will now
close.
If you continue to experience problems, please restart your computer."

When I do restart, two things happen: on my Desktop, instead of a regular
image, the text appears: "Internet Explorer has experienced a problem or
error. As a precaution, your Active Desktop has temporarily been turned
off." and if I proceed with getting on line through Explorer, the cycle
starts again with error popups.

I tried (many times) to repair Explorer by going to Control Panel >
Add/Remove Programs > Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 SPI and Internet Tools >
Repair Internet Explorer. It does not work. I tried to reinstall (several
times) Internet Explorer 6 from Microsoft site. It does not work.
It is frustrating. I would appreciate if someone can help me with this
"bug". By the way, I did run Norton AntiVirus several times. No viruses have
been detected.
I have Windows 98. (Sorry! It came with the Laptop and, according to
Microsoft Windows automated analysis, can not be upgraded without loosing a
bunch of programs.)

Thank you,
Denise

Try this: Tools > Internet Options > Advanced > Browsing
Uncheck the Enable 3rd party browser extensions

If this clears your problem then find out who the culprit
is with this tool.

When all is well reset the IE tool settings.
