Only one window

Jose Mª Tome

Hi all, first of all sorry if anybody has answered this question before.
My problem is as follows: IE 6.0 doesn't allow to have opened more than one
window at the same time, if I want to open a new one (Ctrl+U), the present
one dissapears. I've been looking for viruses and spyware and I think that
my computer es clean. Any idea?? .
Thanks in advance.

This may be the setting you are looking for:
Tools / Internet Options / Advanced and UNCHECK "Reuse windows for launching
shortcuts"

OTH - (Ctrl+N) is the shortcut key combo for opening a new window.

Hi,
From IE> Tools> Internet Options> Advanced> Browsing> uncheck "Reuse windows
for launching shortcuts."

And... you have a program running which is blocking pop-up windows-
something like Yahoo Companion, Google toolbar, MSN toolbar, a firewall,
Earthlink (or another pop-up blocker) My IE2 (a shell for IE) etc.
Yahoo Companion is a very common cause.

You'll have to turn off the feature that's blocking new windows or, perhaps,
uninstall the program.

With some programs of this type, using Ctrl+click or Shift+click will allow
a new window.

I suspect your problem is with OE6 not IE6?

(Ctrl-u is Next Unread Message in OE.
Similarly in case the U you show means Ctrl-Shift-u
that causes the Next Unread Conversation command to be executed.)

Your symptom can occur if you have the Preview pane active and
if that pane has focus on that window. (E.g. the Preview pane header
is blue either because you tabbed to it or because you clicked in it.)

The solution to that problem is either to close the Preview pane
or to switch the focus to the message list. (E.g. tab there or click there.)

BTW there is an newsgroup which supports OE6 specifically
and it would have been a better place to have asked this question.

Thank you all for your advices, I'll try.
I forgot to tell you that I 've got the spanish edition of Internet Explorer
6.02 and the shortcut to open a new window is, as I wrote you before,
Crtl+U. I didn't know that for english edition is Ctrl+N, so I supose I'm in
the right newsgroup, I'm not?.
Thanks again.

Not in the right newsgroup for people to have guessed that that is what
you meant by Ctrl-U. However your description with it "open a new one"
was clear enough. I was just checking in case Ctrl-U implied OE.

In that case see Don Varnau's reply, paying particular attention to his
comment about Yahoo Companion.

BTW since you are using OE instead of using your ISP's news server
you could use msnews. There are Spanish newsgroups on that server
too. E.g. click on the following link to create a new news account
and then press Ctrl-w (or whatever shortcut gets you into a server's list
of newsgroups) and type: .es.ie I'm not sure how active those newsgroups
may be but hopefully the people writing there would be more familiar with
your Spanish UI.

Here's the link:
