I have a box running Win2k and something wierd is going on
with one of my administrator accounts. When I start it up
and logon to the `problem' account, it freezes up and no
icons show up on the desktop. The mouse arrow shows up
right in the middle of the gui screen and that's it,
nothing else. BUT, when I log off (ctrl, alt, delete) and
logon again right afterwards, there's No Problem and it
starts right up like there's nothing wrong.

It only does this with this one account. I can't figure
out why this is. There are other admin accounts that does
not do this.

If there are any suggestions out there, please give me a
heads up. THANX N ADVANCE The Rookie/Wayne B.

Try logging in with the good account, save the profile info (desktop,
favs,..) that you need and then delete the bad account and login again
with the bad username to re-create it the profile.

Deleting the profile and recreating it can be time-consuming, you might
find it easier to get to the root of the issue (helpful for when this kind
of thing happens again to you).

You say that icons are not showing up, this is often an issue with
explorer.exe (the app that essentially "runs" the desktop).
- The fact that other profiles are working ok lead me to believe that the
actual files for explorer.exe are not corrupted.
- Various 3rd-party components are sometimes loaded under explorer.exe
(such as shell extensions, browser extensions), and can cause problems like
you are having.
- The easiest thing to try initially is to disable 3rd-party browser
extensions (these can affect IE and the shell, since they have many common
file dependencies):
To disable these:
- Open Internet Explorer
- Clear the checkbox for "Enable third-party browser extensions
(requires restart) found in Tools > Internet Options > Advanced

If this works, then you can proceed to delete the one(s) causing the problem
To delete them:
- Run Regedit
- Entries for browser extensions will be found in the below key.
Export and delete the suspect ones.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet
Explorer\Extensions

I hope this helps, post back here if the above does not work.
