Only default Refresh rate option

My monitor flickers. I did a clean install of XP, then installed SP2, and
all works well except with the Refresh rate of my CRT Dell M991 Color
Monitor. When I go to Control Panel, Display, Settings, Monitor, the only
Refresh rate option I get is USE HARDWARE DEFAULT SETTING. I know that
originally - before Clean install and SP2 - I had a list of different refresh
rates to choose from. I have used the controls on the monitor itself to
RESET it to factory settings which are 1024x768 and 60hz - I think if I could
set at a higher refresh rate the flickering would stop - but don't have the
option. Have been through my monitor's CD and don't see any driver to
reinstall. Anyone?

Check the Dell site www.dell.com for an updated monitor driver, or color
profile.

Make sure also that your current color profiles are associated with your
monitor and are in use.

Usually in almost all cases a refresh rate between 60HZ and 85HZ does the
trick.

thank you, Larry, for responding. Have had trouble finding an updated monitor
driver for a Dell M991. Will continue to look. How would I check on the
color profiles?

Monitor drivers are only specs of what range of settings the monitor
will accept. Check that in your manual, then in Display - Settings
Click advanced and on the Monitor tab, uncheck the 'hide modes monitor
cannot display'. You can then go to the Adapter page and click List All
modes, and choose one with in range (cautiously)
