refresh rate

If this is the wrong forum I apologize.

Running XP Home SP2. I just purchased a new monitor, 19" flat screen
LCD, wide screen.

When I go to properties>advanced to reset the refresh rate, the
manufacturer recommends 90hz, the drop-down list only shows 2 options,
59 and 60 hz. i also unchecked the box "hide modes that this monitor
cannot display" but still only get the 2 refresh rate options.

Is the solution to this upgrading my video card? I am using NViDIA
GeForce4 MX440 with the latest drivers? Or is there another way to add
refresh rates to the list?

Again, sorry for an off topic and thanks for any replies!

Merc,

Check nVidia's User Interface settings. I have a similar video card (GF2) &
nVidia tends to limit my selections after installing. You should be able to
right-click on the desktop and see an nVidia shortcut to the interface. Look
for the refresh rate settings, which also has a 'hide modes that this
monitor cannot display' option.

ps-I'm sure your monitor allows higher refresh rates

In the Properties screen, make sure your monitor is appearing as Plug and
Play Monitor, or the actual name and model of the monitor. Otherwise,
Windows may not see that it can do higher refresh rates.

Thanks for the reply. I opened the NVIDIA control panel and there also
it only shows the two refresh rates of 59 and 60HZ.

It does show plug and play monitor and in the NVIDIA control panel it
actually shows the right model number of the monitor also.

Should I remove it from device manager and reboot? Will that help?

Merc,

It wouldn't hurt to try uninstalling & rebooting. Do you have the latest
nVidia driver (v91.31) Just a thought.

Yes I have that driver installed and uninstalling/rebooting didn't
help either, just tried it.

I think the refresh rate is for the old CRT type monitor, and is not useful
for LCD monitors.
