What are the best online merchants where I can buy a video card in the
UK, or at least ships to the UK?

Thank you.

"Best" is tricky. There are lots to choose from, and you can always find
problems with them all via a net search. But the site I probably use
most is... http://www.overclockers.co.uk/
They're not perfect, but they're pretty competitive, especially for vid
cards.
http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/home/ is another useful site. Prices are
often very good.

I got a pair of Sapphire Radeon X800 GTO Fireblade (PCI-E) cards through
it247.com here in London. Delivered two days after purchase. Noo problem!

Ebuyer have good prices, but packaging can be hit or miss. I've had
stuff delivered where the only P&P applied was to stick the courier
label onto the retail box.

Anywhere from Scan.co.uk, Savastore (watford Electronics),
overclockers.co.uk, ebuyer.com

I was just thinking how wonderful life was, when "Alan"

And the problem with that is...? Retail boxes are manufactures' spec
packaging...they are designed to be shipped!

It is when so many think that the definition of a good online retailer
is that the product arrives the day after it's ordered, sigh.

The only way to judge a retailer IMHO is to find out how they treat
you when things go pear-shaped.

In the past I've used both http://www.scan.co.uk and
http://www.ebuyer.com and both have been reliable. Scan are better when
it comes to tech support & RMAs, whereas Ebuyer's processes seem a
little long winded, though they work.

If you're in the north west, Scan is based in Horwich, near Bolton
Wanderers' ground. Ebuyer is online only.

Neil.

Erm, no, retail packaging is meant to be displayed on a shop shelf.
The manufacturer will package multiple units in another box for
shipping (and protection).

I had a graphics card sent to me by ebuyer, that had a 1mm thin plastic
cover over the actual card so that it could be viewed without opening
the box. The card was damaged due to the bad handling by the courier,
and hence bad packaging for shipping by ebuyer.

If you've ever been to a courier depot and seen the way they treat
packages you would insist on some packaging from your postage&packaging
charges!

I found Dabs and eBuyer to be good value; Dabs returns policy works but
is completely uncommunictive. Same motherboard returned twice for same
repair and each time arrived back without any word as to what they
found. Now I'm not going to bother to rebuild the system for a third
time and risk yet another breakdown. But their prices are keen and
delivery was good under the pre-BT management. Never had to return to
eBuyer. Overclockers uk also good for memory, usually seem to have Tom's
Hardware recommended stuff-a good point in their favour.

Point taken, cheers Alan.

Agree. Overclockers.co.uk used to have a poor rep for this but I found it
undeserved. Had a couple of items go back no probs. One was a 9800Pro that
had a poor heatsink - new one was sent out straight away. I use them for
most large purchases and have for several years. Aria.co.uk are pretty good
for the smaller stuff but never had to test their RMA

I always use overclockers now, providing they have it in stock. They
may not be the most competitive on price, or have a huge range of
products, but their support/returns dept has been very good when I've
had to send stuff back. Usually, a short phone call will result in
them immediatlely emailing you an RMA.
I will never use Dabs/BT again...
