Ongoing crash/shut down

Running XP, system spontainously shuts down, I restart (sometimes hard to restart have to hit reset 2,3, sometimes 10 times) shut down seems random. When restarted sometimes asks "send error report to MS" send report, always same reply "device driver error". No new software or hardware adds, so ??? Check system no errors present, running Norton no virus's found. MS site unable to help other than "device driver error" has happened 9 times today, last 5-7 days ok, before that random, somedays good, some not so good. Any ideas ?

Check for a temperature problem aka overheating of the cpu.

Thanks Plato, checked that when all this first started happening, within Intels specs last checked. Will check again tomorrow, getting late for this old guy.
