OneTouche Maxtor external drive no more recognized after using Norton Ghost 2003

Please, can anybody help with the following problem.
I am using XP Pro SP1 and I have been using an external USB2/Firewire
OneTouch Maxtor 160go disk for several weeks without problem (either
on USB2 or Firewire).
Recently, I tried to make a backup of my C: partition using Norton
Ghost 2003 (build 775), but it failed and after that, I discovered
that my external drive was recognized by Windows XP only in USB 1.1.
Firewire and USB2 appear with a yellow exclamation mark in Device
manager.
I tried everything I could, following the manual instructions,
installating and reinstalling the drivers, but no luck.
I upgraded Norton Ghost 2003 to build 789 (as recommended on the
Symantec Site), but this had no effect on the problem : the drive
still does not appear when connected to USB2 or Firewire. I tried to
connect it with same cables via USB2 and FireWire on another computer
and it worked fine !

Thanks for your help

Since the drive works with USB 2.0 and FireWire on other computers, the
problem is your computer. I would try updating the chipset
(motherboard) drivers and see if that fixes the problem. In Device
Manager (Start-Run-Devmgmt.msc) you may be able to right click on these
devices, click Uninstall, then reboot and allow Windows to reinstall
them). This may help too.
