OneCare Not Starting Up

M

Matthew W. I. Dunn

I've been using the "trial version" of Windows Live OneCare 2.0.

After starting up the computer, I opened my IE7 browser which promptly froze.

I noticed that there was no Windows Live OneCare icon in the lower-righthand
tray (sand box?) . . . and, it showed no signs of wanting to start up. I
selected it manually in START > ALL PROGRAMS, and the little WLOC window came
up, with the green status bar cycling and cycling and cycling. But, no
start-up

I tried restarting the computer. However, OneCare did not seem to start up
with the computer again, and no icon was shown in the tray. Then, after a
few seconds (ca. 10) the icon finally appeared and the Monthly Report showed
on the screen.

I did check on the "Subscribe" button yesterday to see how much a copy of
WLOC would cost. Then, I clicked "Cancel." I thought that I might have
inadvertently disabled the "trial version" by not following through on the
purchase. (Still, I do have another anti-virus/anti-spyware suite which has
been turned off while using OneCare. Could that have been the problem?)

Was WLOC still running on the computer, even though it wasn't shown in the
tray?
Was I protected?

Thanks.

Matthew;
Sorry, but you're on the wrong forum for WLOC questions. You need to go
here to post in their Installation & Activation section questions:
http://forums.microsoft.com/windowsonecare/default.aspx?siteid=2

However, you are correct in that they will tell you to completely remove
your previously installed real-time security (same as McAfee will warn
you), even if that means un-installing with a special program made just for
that purpose, and not just turning it off:
