One machine, two names - Domain Controller

Within one of our W2000 domains there is a domain controller that has been
rebuilt using a different name (everything else including IP address is the
same), unfortunately the original name is still listed as a domain
controller. This is causing error messages for replication in the event log.

Am I safe to delete the original or will this have a knock-on effect with
the current domain controller?
